Safety Net was a solo show at Bread & Circus Art Gallery in 2021.

Artist Statement:

I feel that blankets were my grandmother’s unofficial display of affection and nurture. There would always be a blanket draped on the couch, in the guest bedroom, and extras in the closets to offer whenever we would visit or stay over. I think she got it from my great grandma, it was that way at her place, too. The majority of them were made by either my grandmother or my great grandmother. On a Tuesday morning, much before dawn, we were informed of her passing. I had a chainstitch blanket she had made that had been with my immediate family for as long as I can remember draped on me. I pulled it up over my face and clutched the torn corner.

This blanket that I didn’t before think twice about became my safety net.
